Nature of God God operates within a framework of law. Now this is not contrary to what we know about God from the Scrip tures, for we find that God also deals with man within the framework of law. For the Christian, God is re sponsible for the ten commandments, the ritualistic law of the Hebrews and the Sermon on the Mount. But of course you say, “ the Chris tian is not under law but under grace.” However, saying that the Christian is under grace does not re move him from the laws of God. For the very plan of salvation whereby the Christian enters into grace is a “ law” of God. It is a God-given law or principle whereby men come to God. Entering into this new relationship with God by following the “ law of salvation” does not free man from the demand s of other God-given “ laws.” For the Christian soon finds that if he is to live a successful Chris tian life, there are certain “ laws” which are to govern his life. For ex ample, there is the “ law for fellow ship” found in 1 John 1:7, “ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.” The “ law for joy” can be found in John 15:10, 11, “ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” And finally the “ law for restoration” in 1 John 1:9, “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” What is the significance to us as Christians of the observation that our God is one of law in both the physi cal and spiritual realms? We all know what happens in the natural realm when one tries to go contrary to nat ural laws. Dire consequences, and of ten death, results. The same is true in the spiritual realm. Not following the “ plan of salvation” will result in eter nal damnation. Going contrary to the “ laws” established by God for a suc cessful Christian life will lead to frus tration, heartache, unhappiness, and if persisted in, will ruin one’s effec tiveness as a Christian. Thus it be hooves us to carefully discern these “ laws of grace” and follow them so that we might be more fruitful serv ants of His. END.

Science & the T his month I would like to consider what the Christian can learn from science about the nature of God. Of course, science does not have any thing directly to say about God. How ever, when the discoveries of science are considered within a Christian framework there are revealed certain truths about the Creator that we tend to forget. First let us establish the relation ship of God to the realm of science. The scientist works with everything that can be seen, touched, heard and measured. The whole universe, as far out in space as the most powerful telescopes will probe and as far down into matter as the atom smasher will penetrate, is the scientist’s domain. This is what he is trying to under stand: where it came from, how it operates and what is its destiny. Of course, the Bible is not silent on these matters. In fact, the very introductory statements of revelation are concerned with the origin of the universe, “ In the beginning God cre ated the heaven and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). From this and numerous other passages of Scripture, we can conclude that these things with which the scientist works had their origin in God. The Bible also has a word to say about how the universe operates in Colossians 1:16, 17, “ For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth . . . all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” These verses clearly state that God through Christ is responsible for the way the uni verse is running today. This is suf ficient to establish that the scientist is investigating areas of nature where the Bible says God is operating. If this is so, then scientific discoveries in these areas should tell us something about the nature of God. Of course, we do not have time to consider in detail what the scientist has discov ered, but I think we can make a gen eralization from his work that will I help us to better understand God. The one main generalization that can be drawn from scientific observa tions is that the universe seems to be following certain “ natural laws,” that is, there seems to be law and order in its operation. Since the Christian believes that the scientist is just de scribing how God is running the uni- I verse, this conclusion of the scientist tells us that in the material realm

It’s ASTOUNDING! It’s AMAZING! It’s TRUE! Our file bears out this fact.

$10 invested in Child Evangelism often means that 3 more children will make a first-time decision » for Christ (hence $3.33V£ per child). Weigh this against an estimated $10,000 to win one adult for Christ. Helping win children to Christ is a sound investment.
