Launched in 2020, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the event, ECOC introduced the ECOC Exhibition Industry Awards in conjunction with Optical Connections. The awards return ed in 2022 and once again highlight ed significant achievements in advancing the business of optical communications, transport, networking, fibre-based products, photonic integration and related developments. Congratulations to this year’s winners!
MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT AWARD CIENA: WAVELOGIC 5 NANO PKT-MAX
DATA CENTRE INNOVATION BEST PRODUCT AWARD LUMENTUM: 200G PAM4 EML CHIPS. Lumentum’s EML is a photonic integrated circuit that consists of a distributed feedback laser section and a monolithically-integrated electro- absorption modulator, to provide customers a single high-performance chip. The 200G EMLs enable the transition to 800G and 1.6T. OPTICAL INTEGRATION (SIPH AND/OR OTHER) AWARD COHERENT: 400G ZR+ QSFP-DD- DCO TRANSCEIVERS Coherent (formerly II-VI)’s high transmit output power 400G QSFP-DD-DCO coherent transceivers enable true IP-over- DWDM deployments in metro and regional optical transport networks, eliminating an entire layer of optical equipment and thereby significantly reducing both capital and operational expenditures for network operators. OPTICAL TRANSPORT AWARD SOURCE PHOTONICS: 400G QSFP-DD AND 100G QSFP28 PAM4 PRODUCTS The telecom grade 400G QSFP-DD and QSFP28 100G product family significantly extend the application usage of client optics for telecom carriers. They support 1x118Gbps or 4x118Gbps fibre breakout applications showing less than <10ms recovery time with optical protection. They also support FOIC4.8 and FOIC1.2, as well as legacy OTU OTL4.4 rates for optical protection switching and fast recovery.
Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano PKT-MAX is the industry’s first QSFP-DD pluggable operating at 70G Baud with integrated Erbium-Doped Fibre Amplifier and Tuneable Optical Filter to enable operation over all line systems, with highest router port density. MOST INNOVATIVE FTTX PRODUCT AWARD SOURCE PHOTONICS: 50G PAM4 SFP56 TRANSCEIVERS The Source Photonics 50G SFP56 achieves 50% port savings by upgrading the rate of one transceiver to 50Gbps, creating flexibility for further improvement of wireless forward bandwidth. Source Photonics is one of the first suppliers in the world to introduce 50G LR and FR PAM4 SFP56 optical modules, which support 10km and 2km respectively BEST FIBRE/FIBRE COMPONENT PRODUCT AWARD LUMENISITY: CORESMART® CABLE TECHNOLOGIES. CoreSmart® cable technologies, together with the ORC at the University of Southampton, have successfully demonstrated even lower attenuation with their new generation of award- winning NANF technology, DNANF, and demonstrated the lowest attenuation achieved of any hollowcore fibre and over a broader range of operating wavelengths.

Nominations were considered and voted on by the Market Focus Committee, which reviews the progress of advanced technologies from research to commercialisation including volume production as well as new and innovative products. Winners were announced live at the exhibition on Tuesday 20th September.
