Le maire dit vouloir poursuivre les projets qui lui tiennent à cœur, dont l’élargissement de la route 17 ainsi que la création d’un campus d’hôpital à Rockland. « Je vais continuer à travailler fort pour les résidents de Clarence-Rockland. » Deux nouveaux visages Deux nouveaux conseillers se présen- teront à la table du conseil au mois de novembre. Il s’agit de Samuel Cardarelli du quartier 1 avec 612 votes, et Don Bouchard du quartier 4 avec 1020 voix. Stéphane Sarrazin succèdera au maire sortant d’Alfred-Plantagenet, Fernand Dicaire. Selon les résultats non officiels rendus disponibles, celui-ci aurait obtenu 2074 votes. Son adversaire, Jean-Pierre Cadieux a récolté 1653 votes. Rappelons que le maire sortant, Fernand Dicaire, n’a pas sollicité de nouveau mandat. Lors de son allocution, M. Sarrazin n’a pas manqué de remercier tous ceux qui avaient contribué à son élection. « Je tiens à remercier les quatre femmes dans ma vie », a souligné M. Clarence-Rockland Mayor Guy Desjardins learned of his reelection during a get-together at the Clarence-Creek Community Centre, which drew out about 30 residents of the area. Ces travaux visent à améliorer le contrôle des odeurs par l’augmentation du dégrillage et dessablage. Les travaux d’évaluation du site et le design pré- liminaire sont commencés et seront complétés d’ici la fin de l’automne 2018. La Ville organise donc une soirée d’information publique afin de présenter le projet. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wants to reassure residents when it comes to officers and marijuana. “Our policy remains; all members must report to work fit for duty,” explained OPP Commissioner Vince Hawkes. “The health and well-being of all our members enables the OPP to continuously provide effective support to our communities.” As a safety-sensitive workplace, all OPP members must report to work fit for duty. A member is fit for duty when they are in a physical, mental and emotional state that allows the individual to perform assigned duties competently and in a manner that does not compromise or threaten the safety or health of that individual or others, the environment, or OPP property.
Reporting to work fit for duty requires a member be without limitations resulting from, but not limited to, all drugs (including cannabis, over-the-counter and prescription medication) and/or alcohol. Results released from a 26-year study of the Rideau River system show the invasive species has “taken over” the system, which is ideal for zebra mussel growth. There a few isolated areas left in the Rideau River where native mussel species still thrive. Anyone boating the Rideau River should clean the bottoms of their vessels thoroughly to prevent the spread of zebra mussels to other river and lake systems. – Gregg Chamberlain LOCAL DOCTOR NOMINATED PRESTIGEOUS AWARD Clarence-Rockland municipal council recently nominated local doctor Steve Pelletier for the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario Council Award. Dr. Pelletier practises within the Clarence-Rockland Family Health Team. The criteria for selecting a physician for the Council Award are based on the eight phy- sician roles identified by Educating Future Physicians of Ontario in 1993. Le célèbre journaliste et auteur Geronimo Stilton était de passage à la Bibliothèque publique de Clarence-Rockland le 13 octobre dernier, dans le cadre de la Semaine des bibliothèques publiques de l’Ontario. M. Stilton s’est arrêté pour rencontrer ses admirateurs, signer des autographes et même dédicacer quelques livres. Il est même resté assez longtemps pour jouer avec les participants. Le 16 octobre, il est revenu pour rencontrer des élèves des écoles élémentaires de la région. Les enfants de 3 e et 4 e année ont eu la chance de lui serrer la main et de lui faire des câlins. La Conservation de la Nation Sud (CNS) a publié un rapport qui indique que la région du bassin hydrographique ne respecte pas la quantité minimale de couvert forestier en vertu des lignes directrices fédérales en matière d’environnement pour un habitat forestier sain et durable. Plus d’une centaine de personnes se sont réunies le 20 octobre dernier au RiverRock Inn, à Rockland, à l’occasion du spectacle-bénéfice annuel de la firme comptable BDO Rockland. Cette année, BDO Rockland a choisi de remettre les fonds amassés au Regroupement Autisme Prescott-Russell de la SFOA. La présidente de l’organisme s’est dite très heureuse que BDO Rockland les ait choisis en tant que récipiendaires des fonds générés par cette quatrième édition de l’évènement. « C’est gentil de leur part parce que souvent les familles de ces jeunes-là sont dépourvues. Cet argent va aider à donner du répit aux parents tout en travaillant les habiletés de ces jeunes-là », a-t-elle expliqué. Un souper a d’abord eu lieu, suivi d’un spectacle de l’artiste Geneviève Côté. En tout, environ 4000 $ ont été amassés. Dans la plus grande salle du sous-sol cohabitent deux véritables mastodontes, bien qu’ils ne soient pas exotiques. John Ham et Kevin Bacon sont deux gros cochons qui sont gênés devant la caméra. Ceux-ci sont avec les Keepers depuis qu’ils sont des cochonnets. Dans cette même salle se trouve deux grosses tortues. « Lorsqu’on les a trouvées, elles (les tortues) avaient la tête brulée, a ajouté M. Lawri. C’est à cause des lumières qui étaient toujours sur elles. » De plus, un manque de nutrition aurait fait en sorte que leur carapace ne s’est pas développée complètement. Afin d’être en mesure de prendre soin de tellement d’animaux, le duo organise plusieurs présentations, afin d’informer les grands comme les tout petits sur la vie et les habitudes des animaux exotiques. Les curieux sont invités à visiter Meet the Keepers. La visite est gratuite. Seul un don est demandé, peu importe le montant. Nous n’en avons jamais eu et on n’en aura jamais. »

Petit village au grand cœur !
De grands espaces verts, des artères importantes, des volontaires dévoués et de nombreuses activités pour la communauté : ce sont seulement quelques exemples des éléments qui donnent à Bourget sa réputation de petit village avec un grand cœur. Le maintien de l’équilibre entre la tranquillité rurale et la croissance et le développement est un art que possèdent les gens de Bourget. Situé près de Rockland et faisant partie de la cité de Clarence-Rockland, Bourget est au centre de deux artères majeures : le chemin Russell (chemin de comté 2) qui se rend à Ottawa et le chemin de comté 8, qui relie Rockland au nord et Casselman au sud, et qui devient la route 138 menant vers Cornwall. Avec une population estimée en 2016 à 1169 personnes, Bourget n’a pas perdu son cachet de vie rurale, malgré les développements et les nouveaux projets. Il y a quelques années, tous les tuyaux pour l’eau ont été remplacés à Bourget, ainsi qu’une ligne additionnelle pour augmenter la pression de l’eau. Selon la conseillère de Bourget, Diane Choinière, le plus important projet pour le futur de Bourget est l’installation d’égouts sanitaires. C’est le temps. On a un village qui veut exploser, qui veut s’épanouir et s’agrandir, et on n’a pas encore d’égouts, a constaté Mme
Choinière. J’ai toujours dit que le jour où on aura les égouts, Bourget va exploser. » Les bénévoles au centre de Bourget ! « Bourget, c’est plein de bénévoles », a affirmé le maire. « Si on regarde le Centre communautaire, qui va très bien, c’est encore grâce aux bénévoles. Jocelyne Leroux et Monique Laroche du Centre communautaire, par exemple, sont des dames qui se dévouent à 100 % pour leur village et c’est ça qui le garde en vie. Si on regarde le Partage, ce sont aussi tous des bénévoles. » Toujours selon le maire, c’est le travail des bénévoles et des organisations communautaires, en partenariat avec la municipalité, qui permet de réaliser des projets qui sont vitaux pour le progrès de Bourget. Le Club Optimiste, le Partage, le Centre communautaire de Bourget, le Comité de loisirs et le Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie sont tous des organismes qui encouragent ces projets - le plus récent étant l’ouverture des jeux d’eau au Parc de Bourget, ainsi que la construction imminente d’un nouveau gazebo dans le parc. Un mode de vie active et en bonne santé Autres les projets mentionnés précédemment, Bourget est spécial pour ses grands espaces et sa relation avec la nature et la vie active. De plus, Bourget abrite la Forêt Larose, une des plus grandes forêts de l’est de l’Ontario, couvrant plus de 180 km de sentiers. Elle est l’hôte de nombreuses activités pendant toute l’année, incluant le ski de fond, le traîneau à chiens, les courses de VTT, l’observation des oiseaux, l’équitation, la chasse à l’orignal, et la randonnée, entre autres.

Small village, big heart! Large green spaces, important road arteries, dedicated volunteers and many activities for the community – these are just a few examples of the elements that give Bourget its reputation as a small village with a big heart. Maintaining the balance between rural tranquility, while at the same time trying to promote growth and development is an art the people of Bourget have been perfecting. With a population estimated in 2016 to be 1169, Bourget has definitely not lost its rural charm, but is also working hard on several projects to promote its development. The water pipes were all replaced a few years back and the City is looking into getting a fire station and ambulance station in Bourget. “I’ve always said it, the minute we get sewer systems, Bourget is going to explode,” said Diane Choinière, councillor representing the ward that encompasses Bourget. The Bourget Community Centre, the Club Optimiste, Le Partage, the Recreational Committee and the Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie are some of the organizations that partner up with the city to accomplish projects and events vital to the progress of the community. The most recent of these being the opening of the Splash Pad at Bourget Park and the upcoming construction of a new gazebo.
