St-Lawrence Journalism program is no more

Faculty staff Khadijah Vakily, Terry Tinkess and Bill Kingston, surrounded by past and current students, during a recent gathering on April 17. cross the front doors of the post-secondary institution. Done are the days where curious soon- to-be journalists could be seen throughout Cornwall, in search of a good or interes- ting story. Gone is also The Point , the only newspaper to cover news at the College. “Every time a program ceases to operate, it creates sadness,” explained the dean of the College, Don Fairweather. “But the college is a business. When a program isn’t profitable enough, we have to shut it down.” Fairweather also explained that colleges tend to change programs quite a bit, in order to adapt to the changing economy. “Colleges were never meant to have the same classes all the time,” he stresses. “We are made to change to better suit the world.” But, although Journalismwon’t be taught in Cornwall any longer, Programcoordinator Terry Tinkess was quick to point out that the world still needs journalists. “There is

Have you noticed any of these symptoms? If so, make an appointment to see your dentist as quickly as possible. Early detection and appropriate treatment can cure the problem. When

gingivitis is at a more advanced stage, your dentist can offer you solutions to stop the deterioration of your oral health. He or she could also refer you to a periodontist, which is a doctor of dental medicine specializing in gum disease. HOW TO PREVENT GINGIVITIS The best way to protect yourself against gingivitis is to prevent the development of dental plaque. That means brushing your teeth at least twice a day or immediately after a meal and flossing daily. Adopting healthy habits, such as quitting smoking and reducing your consumption of sugary foods, is another solution; instead, choose healthy foods over sweet treats. Seeing your dentist on a regular basis is also a good way to steer clear of gingivitis.
