Superheros fly over Cornwall for CAPE
A woman, who claimed to be someone else and proceeded to kick an officer, is in hot water. Deborah Cooper, 45, of Cornwall, was arrested on April 2 and charged with personation, obstructing police, assault and breach of probation for being under the influence of alcohol and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that, on the same day, the intoxicated woman falsely identified herself to police and later kicked an officer. First book for Cornwall native Diane Charbonneau Cornwall native Diane Charbonneau has written her first children’s book entitled Eeko’s Splash Lan- ding, which she will be presenting at the Cornwall Library on April 25. It all starts on planet Zeebot, where Eeko, a young alien, is building a spaceship for his class project. Something goes wrong! The spaceship with Eeko inside is hurled into space and splash lands on planet Earth in a young boy’s swimming pool. As he exits the broken down spaceship, Eeko comes face to face with Xavier, a young boy. Although frightened of each other at first, they become friends as they try to figure out a way to get the spaceship up and running before the neighbourhood finds out an alien has landed on Earth. But how do you find parts to fix a spaceship? Where on Earth do you find fuel? Will Eeko be able to return home to planet Zeebot? – Francis Racine

Plusieurs sculptures décorent aussi le centre de la galerie. Lemois d’avril s’annonce déjà assez char- gé pour la galerie puisqu’un événement de grande importance fait jaser les multiples individus qui s’arrêtent à l’édifice. Il s’agit de Les arts en direct, plusieurs artistes locaux qui pratiquent leur art dans la galerie, pour la durée du mois. « Nous voulons soutenir non seule- ment les artistes, mais aussi découvrir et permettre de nouveaux talents », a expliquéWyatt Walsh, président du conseil d’administration de la galerie. Selon le vice-président des communications pour la galerie, Jamie Gilcig, l’idée ne date pas d’hier. « Nous vou- lions que les gens se sentent invités à la galerie, a-t-il expliqué. Nous voulions aussi souligner l’importance des artistes dans la région, puisque les arts sont très importants financièrement pour la ville. » Perte du Corrid’Art Pour Marc Carrière, artiste francophone de la région, TAG est bien plus qu’une simple galerie. « Lorsque le Centre culturel a démé- nagé sur le cheminMontréal, on a perdu le Corrid’Art, a-t-il déclaré. J’ai fait mon vernis- sage là et j’ai été le dernier artiste à exposer mes œuvres dans la petite galerie. » Bien plus qu’un simple couloir, le Cor- rid’Art était la seule galerie des arts franco- phone à Cornwall. Plusieurs artistes fran- cophones de la région et des environs ont donc exposé leurs œuvres sur ses murs. « Nous n’avons pas encore trouvé de local pour créer une nouvelle galerie. TAG s’est avéré être l’endroit idéal pour nous. » M. Carrière expose la majorité de ses

Gone is also The Point , the only newspaper to cover news at the College. “Every time a program ceases to operate, it creates sadness,” explained the dean of the College, Don Fairweather. “But the college is a business. When a program isn’t profitable enough, we have to shut it down.” Fairweather also explained that colleges tend to change programs quite a bit, in order to adapt to the changing economy. “Colleges were never meant to have the same classes all the time,” he stresses. “We are made to change to better suit the world.” But, although Journalismwon’t be taught in Cornwall any longer, Programcoordinator Terry Tinkess was quick to point out that the world still needs journalists. “There is
