Q. Each year we have a long dis cussion in our church about whether the little ones should be included in the annual Christmas program. How do you feel about this? A. There are actually two schools of thought on this question, both with some very good logic on their side. Let me just give you the “For” and “Against” views which may help you in making a decision. FOR The Christmas story appeals to all ages. Therefore, the Sunday school should meet as a large family with everyone taking part. Adults enjoy seeing the little ones perform, even though children may come up with many unrehearsed in cidents. Unchurched parents usually will come to see their own children take part. In this way the salvation mes sage can be given to those who do not attend church regularly. Some children are gifted and such programs give opportunity for them to use their talents. Most church parents bring their little ones anyway, so the children might as well take part at the begin ning of the program. It’s a tradition. It just wouldn't be the same without them. AGAINST The program should have real value for each participant. Most lit tle children do not understand the recitations they are required to learn or the reason for reciting them.
