Le Lightning s’éclate à Brockville

SPORTS Three-win week for the Beavers MARTIN BRUNETTE martin.brunette@eap.on.ca The Clarence Beavers banked six precious points last week with three wins. They are now showing a four-victory streak and getting closer to a spot in the playoffs. “In fact, the boys have been in playoff mode for quite some time now,” said general manager Charlie Lavictoire. “We had a lot of discussions with the players and decided that was the way to go, otherwise, that was it for us.” Since then, the Beavers have had six victories in their last 10 games. They now have to secure at least one more point to get into the playoffs. They have three more games to do just that. The Beavers started the week with a 3-2 overtime win against the Ottawa Canadians on January 27. Spectators had to wait until the last period to see a first goal scored by the Canadians. Sébastien Dion then answered for Clarence, tying the game 1-1.The Beavers took the lead with a second goal scored on a power play by Jordan Baptist, with the help of Yanik Laliberté and Nathaniel Quinn. The Ottawa Canadians were able to fill in the gap with their second goal. The score remained tied at 2-2 in regular time. The overtime periodmade no winners so a shootout was necessary. Pier-Olivier Fournier was the only player able to put one in, giving the victory to Clarence. Friday, January 30, the Beavers took advantage of undisciplined opponents in the Metcalfe Jets. The Jets took seven penalties in total. Clarence claimed a 5-2 victory but only scored once on the power play. Sylvain Quesnel scored twice for the Beavers. The other local goals were scored by Tyler Somers, Dominik Henrie and Sébastien Dion. Yanik Laliberté racked up three points for contributing to three goals. The Beavers concluded their weekend with a 6-4 win against the Gatineau Mustangs, on Sunday, February 1. Sébastien Dion had a four goals game against Gatineau. The Beavers will get a couple days of rest before crossing sticks against the Ottawa West Golden Knights, this Sunday, at 2:15 p.m., at the Clarence Creek Arena.
