The Small Tweak That Made a Massive Change in My Practice and My Life

As a Dentist for the last 38 years, I’ve spent hundreds of man-hours researching different programs, all promising to bring something new to my practice. While a few of these strategies piqued my interest, it wasn’t until April of last year that I found Dr. Tom “The Gems Guy” Orent. I came across one of his webinars and was immediately drawn to his message and energy. I thought to myself, “This is the kind of guy I want to work with!” I can honestly say that out of every single strategy I’ve tried during my three decades in the practice, the information I’ve learned throughout my last 10 months as part of the Gems Family has been the most enlightening, educational, and FUN! What’s more, my entire team mirrors my enthusiasm. You can tell whether or not your team is on board with a new idea, and I know without a shadow of doubt that my entire team loves Tom’s program. In some instances, patients’ insurance would cover the costs. More often than not, I was just giving it away for free. I followed Tom’s format regarding fluoride verbal skills and the challenge format from start to finish. It was broken down so nicely that it was almost like one of those “Books for Dummies,” which made it easy to understand and even easier to implement. Since we started using this Gem nine months ago, my team’s three Registered Dental Hygienists have had nearly unfathomable results. Of every single patient they offered fluoride to, 100 percent said yes! The Hygienists merely use Tom’s verbal skills to explain to patients the importance of fluoride and tell them that our practice offers a new and improved product that provides quicker results without pressuring them. They have yet to hear a patient say no.

That’s an annual increase of $76,000! In addition to strengthening my patients’ teeth AND providing my practice with a huge revenue stream, this Gem has had a profound impact on my own life as well. This process has demonstrated the fact that even a small tweak can have a massive change. The TOBI EFFECT (The One Big Idea) of focusing on just one Gem at a time helped us truly master it before moving on to the next. I’ve started to mirror the TOBI concept in my personal ventures as a means to reduce my stress and simplify my life. Whether it’s big, like spending more time with my family, or small, like making an adjustment to my golf swing, this process has shaped my focus and positively affected my life.
