Casselman hosted a Skating Day this weekend on Sunday, December 10, at the J.R Brisson Complex, as part of a country-wide free skating day organized by the federal government as part of Canada 150 celebrations. Casselman held their two-hour open skate day under a Disco theme, where people of all ages were skating in the dark under disco lights. Over a hundred people showed up to skate, many of them children. All municipalities had to do was apply for the grant to receive $ 1000 from the federal government for the event. Since Casselman was among the first 150 municipalities to do so, they were also rewarded free Tim Hortons coffee and hot chocolate for the event. —submitted photo

The federal government also supplied some merchandise for the participants, such as Canada 150 pins and henna tattoos and decorative towels for people to clean their skates with. Filming in Casselman! Last month, Black Widow Film Inc. was filming a movie currently titled Mill Creek , on Touchette Bridge, Route 650 in the Casselman area.The film is a low-budget production that is independently produced for network television and all of the ac- tors, producers, and crew are Canadians. The plot of the story concerns what follows after the murder of the character Kendra Wilson, in the sleepy town of Mill Creek, Massachussets. – Caroline Prévost
