BOOK REVIEWS continued page studies based upon the impor tant stewardship texts of the Bible, particularly those that deal with the subject in an economic sense. The reader need not agree with every in terpretation offered to find these stud ies helpful. They may be used in every department of the church. 256 pages; cloth; Abingdon Press, New York; $2.75. Christian ity Through The C enturies By Earle E. Cairns The Chairman of the Department of History, Wheaton College, has pro duced the most complete church his tory to appear in English in many years. The work is soundly evangeli cal in approach and sympathy and at the same time scholarly and at tractive in format. The book is well documented; pointing the reader to many reading sources. Selected bibliographies are found at the close of each chapter. Many diagrams, maps and pictures serve admirably to supplement the text. Not the least important feature of the work is that it brings its dis-,; cussion down to the movements and problems of our own day. Here is a sound single volume church history text. 511 pages; cloth; Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, Mich.; $5.95. The voice of the Christian Re formed Church’s minister of the Back to God Hour is familiar to Christian radio and television audiences. This series of messages on the Ten Com mandments and The Cross of Christ carry the same conviction and earnest spirit of the spoken message. While there is an element of legalism and the mixture of the contrary princi ples of law and grace here the reader will find many things to strengthen his faith. 85 pages; cloth; Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., Grand Rapids, Mich.; $1.50. The Game Of Life By Russell V. DeLong and Mendell Taylor Two leading preachers and teach ers in the Church of the Nazarene have authored this challenge to youth under the analogy of a football game. Such chapter headings as The Game of Life, The Playing Field, Rules of the Game, The Officials and Personnel of the Game, Crossing Worthy Goal Lines and Carrying the Ball of Life are used to bring home spiritual truth to the reader. 89 pages; cloth; Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., Grand Rapids, Mich.; $1.50. END. Of Law And L o v e By Peter H. Eldersveld
