Badges! Competition winners

WOW We had so many entries to the 2021 WOW Badge Design competition, with over 156 designs. The competition organisers wanted children to research and draw animals and their natural habitats, all over the world, that are affected by climate change. They used their research to design a badge that showed animals that could be protected. Walking to school and reducing carbon emissions would do this. The Abbey PCSOs loved the judging process and were complimentary on the wide range of wonderful designs. They chose one overall winner per year group and runners up too. Every child who has entered the competition will have their designs returned to them with an Abbey 'thank you' certificate. The winning designs will be entered into the national competition. The winners were: EYFS Caleb-Jake Dixon , age 4 in nursery. He wrote that this was his first competition and he worked with his sister to create a colourful design. Year 1 Olivia Davey age 5 in 1DP. She drew a panda with pink feet next to bamboo. Year 2 Clara Aylward age 7 in 2J . She drew bees writing, ' I did the bees because we need them, I love honey and bees'. Year 3 Lalithya Pasupuleti age 7 3B. She drew a picture showing pollution and the consequences of melting ice caps. Year 4 Oscar Reed age 9 4RC. He drew a collection of endangered species and wrote, ' if we don't save the animals, then we will lose them'. Year 5 Keavagh Blick age 10 5F. She drew a turtle with a shell depicting a world, writing, ' I chose to draw this picture because it represents that everything is important for the environment and the eco-system'. Year 6 Maisie Pressick age 10 6J. She drew a dramatic and thought-provoking picture of a bush fire, adding, 'I chose sloths because of the bush fires, and I care about sloths a lot'.
