Outdoor adventure! Teamwork
FRANK CHAPMAN At last Year 2 managed to leave school on what was going to be an amazing adventure. All three classes took their turn in visiting Frank Chapman and exploring nature around them. In the morning, children had 3 activities to complete. First. we went on the low rope with a partner and learnt how to act like a karate squirrel to support our friend and prevent them from falling from the rope on to the lava ground. Mrs Goldie enjoyed lying on the rope bridge for a rest! Next we explored the mines - we had to wear special helmets to protect our heads from the low ceiling. We crawled on our hands and knees through the mine, with a torch to show the way. Some of us got a little confused and needed the leader to show the way. Mrs Johnson had a turn too and nearly got stuck - it was funny. After that, we went to the woods on a blind walk through the forest. We were in pairs; one blindfolded and the other giving directions. It was tricky but lots of fun. After lunch, we went to learn bush-crafts in the woods. We were shown many different ways to start a fire, for survival, and then we used a flint to create our own. It was difficult to start, but we all managed it in the end. Our final activity was to build a den to protect us from the cold weather; and keep us safe from any predators. We had to make sure the den was waterproof in case of any rain. It was an amazing day. We were all really exhausted, but had so much fun. It was worth it. Thanks to Eric and Mrs Johnson for the story. PICK IT UP Daisy, Monroe and Arthur spent the weekend doing litter picking for Bearwood #little stars ! [Ed - What a great community-minded thing to do! Really proud of you!] FAMILY LIFE Want to know more about local services that support you and your family in the local area? Visit www.sandwellfamilylife.info
