Draft King® Universal Damper Kit Installation Instructions

Part 2 - Inside the Home

1. Position the firebox bracket about two feet above the firebox floor and mark the top hole. The slot in the firebox bracket should always face towards the rear. For the right hand side of the firebox, have the tail down, and for the left hand side have the tail up.

2. Drill a hole in the firebrick with a 1/2” masonry bit. Slide the lag shield into the hole, with the larger opening facing out. Put lag bolt in the lag shield and hand tighten. Mark the second hole and repeat.

3. When both lag bolts are in place, tighten with a wrench.

4. Thread the ball-chain handle through the keyhole slot in the firebox bracket and let it hang.

5. Find the steel cable from the smoke shelf and thread it through the cable casing.

6. Follow with the cable casing lock. Slide the casing and lock up the cable to where the cable will rub on the offset of the smoke chamber. Place the cable casing at this point and tighten the thumbscrew to secure the lock to the cable. The lock keeps the cable casing from sliding down the cable. 7. Feed the cable through the lock on the ball-chain handle, then slide the ball chain lock up the steel cable until the barrel spring handle is hanging just below the keyhole bracket opening. Tighten and make all adjustments to the system before you cut the cable. 8. When everything looks correct, double loop the cable through the cable lock and cut, leaving about 2 or 3 inches of extra cable. 9. The installation is now complete. WARNING! After showing the customer how the damper works, close the damper and tell the customer not to open it for 24 hours. The silicone that holds the damper in place needs 24 hours to cure. If the damper does not stay closed, it could shift and not work properly. 1 2 3 4
