RUSSELL l The Russell Soccer Club house league closed out its season with a well-at- tended tournament on Saturday, July 27. The club fields over 1400 players including House League and competitive teams and grows every year. Russell has become the local soccer hub, drawing players from all the surrounding communites. “The facilities here are excellent,” said the parent of one young player from Vernon. “Lots of fields and the soccer club building and the schools nearby make this a terrific place to play.” The club recently decided to stop keeping score for players under age 14. It is a new ap- proach that allows children to develop their skills in a cooperative environment and one which many parents at the tournament appreciated.“They can learn and not have so much pressure on them,” said Berenice Jackson of Embrun, whose six-year-old nephew plays here. “And, anyway, they have fun and get fit and that’s sort of the point.” (CV) The Russell Soccer House League ended with a final tournament on Saturday, July 27. Here two of the younger club members, one white team and one red team, race for the ball.
