Generating statewide enthusiasm and national media attention, the Bicentennial Voyage demonstrated the importance of reexamining Erie Canal history, the power of mobile, place-based programming, and established a proven model for future community engagement in partnership with New York State.		4
GATHERING OF THE WATERS		6
During the 2025 Bicentennial Voyage, an Eastern White Pine was planted at each port in recognition of the Haudenosaunee and their enduring connection to the land upon which the Erie Canal was built. Community members contributed water from their local section of the Erie Canal and Hudson River, which was carried aboard the boat and used to nourish the final White Pine planted in New York City.		6

The Back to Buffalo Voyage serves as the centerpiece of the tour, shifting from a commemorative journey to an education-first program. Over 22 days, the boat will visit 16 ports along the Erie Canal, delivering NYS curriculum-aligned programming and public engagement opportunities expected to reach thousands of students & community members statewide.		10
