APPENDIX University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Department of Family & Community Medicine Faculty Guidelines Criteria for Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure (5/1/2017) This document does NOT replace the criteria for Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure as noted in the College of Medicine’s Faculty Guidelines: Criteria for Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure document approved April 3, 2017. The faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine reserves the right to apply specific criteria outlined in the College of Medicine’s Faculty Guidelines in a manner that is practical for the specialty of Family Medicine. As such, where different, this appendix will take precedent over the College of Medicine Guidelines. This Appendix will be review and revised, if necessary, by the department ARPT committee every 5 years and as needed. Active participation in educational programs of the department, including but not limited to teaching and advising medical students, residents, and fellows is a requirement of all faculty members in every track.
IMPORTANT TIMELINE DATES
A. Faculty planning to apply for promotion or tenure:
1. September/October – Faculty wishing to apply for promotion or tenure in November must meet with the Division Director/Unit Head to review their preparation and standing for potential promotion, and to confirm the appropriate faculty track for promotion. Promotion dossier must be submitted to the Director’s Office by November 1 st . 2. Faculty may apply for promotion or tenure by November 1 st of any year or at the normal reappointment time. For faculty applying for promotion in November whose reappointment cycle is also in the upcoming March reappointment cycle, a reappointment dossier must still be submitted in March. It should be noted that less paperwork is required if faculty member applies for both reappointment and promotion during his/her regularly scheduled reappointment cycle.
