Origami: A Beginner’s Lesson Hills Bank in North Liberty (590 W Forevergreen Rd) Thursday, February 27, 2:00 p.m.
Join Amanda Lensing, Senior Living Communities Program Coordinator at the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art, as she discusses the origins of the Japanese art of paper folding and instructs how to make a few simple designs. Historical Downtown Iowa City Buildings Hills Bank in Iowa City (1401 S Gilbert St) Tuesday, March 10, 1:00 p.m.
Tom Schulein, a retired professor at the University of Iowa, will join us to discuss how some of the older buildings in downtown Iowa City succumbed to urban renewal in the 1970s. Others have been lost to fire and other periods of demolition. However, a number of these historical structures remain, and many of them have been repurposed and are still in use. Tom will tell the stories of 19 historic buildings within a defined area of downtown Iowa City, emphasizing their original purposes and weaving in local and national events during their eras of construction to give us some historical perspective. Come join us for a fun afternoon of pampering yourself with a self-manicure. These self-application nail polish strips will last up to 10 days, and will leave your nails looking salon-perfect for spring break! There is no dry time, so you can dig right in to our snacks, sit back, relax, and enjoy good conversation and a glass of wine. Participants will select their nail style prior to the event by choosing from a menu of choices, which will be mailed to you once you register for the event. Cost per person will be $6-$9 for members and $11-$14 for non-members, depending on your nail polish strip selection.
