Fort Worth Police Department Strategic Plan

OPERATIONAL COMMAND

Training Division The Training Division is comprised of three sections: Career Development, Enhanced Skills, and Backgrounds and Recruiting. The Training Division endeavors to hire the most qualified applicants to become police officers for the City of Fort Worth and to keep those officers highly trained throughout their career. It is their mission to ensure training exceeds the standards issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for both recruit training and in-service training. The division is responsible for documenting department training and ensuring all training exceeds the level of compliance established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). TCOLE is the state agency created in 1965 to provide oversight for the licensing, training, and regulations pertaining to all state certified peace officers. The following table provides a list of professional development for sworn personnel by rank. To comply with TCOLE standards, the Chief of Police is currently in the process of appointing a Police Training Advisory Board. The board will have between seven and nine members and will be a diverse group of citizens that reflects the Fort Worth community. The Board will meet at least once a year to advise FWPD on areas of concern to the community, provide feedback on existing policies, and make recommendations for future policies. The first meeting is scheduled for November 2016.
