Fort Worth Police Department Strategic Plan

The goal of recruitment continues to be locating and attracting the absolute best candidates for the position of police officer. However, most police departments in the United States are continuing to encounter difficulties in filling available positions. Unfortunately, the shortage of qualified applicants does not appear to be diminishing. This is especially true when it comes to recruiting qualified minority and female applicants. As a result, police departments must continue to maintain a proactive professional marketing posture in their recruiting efforts. “Selling ourselves” to potential minority and female applicants is essential to the FWPD recruiting effort in a world of limited interested and qualified candidates. FWPD utilizes a variety of strategies to recruit job applicants, such as, posting fliers throughout the community, attending employment workshops at colleges and universities, and utilizing our website more extensively to challenge the vocal minority, clergy, and social movement organizations to become change agents within our organization. We are attracting an exponentially expanding audience using social media. We have expanded our outreach to various cities through attendance at multiple career fairs. The Fort Worth Police Recruiting Unit is committed to the employment of competent individuals who will secure existing vacancies within the Police Department. This operational plan is outlined to underscore recruitment of Fort Worth residents, as well as potential police candidates from the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex, and nationwide. The primary precept of this plan is currently in the implementation phase. The FWPD operational plan for achieving its hiring objective is composed of the following parts:  Managing/increasing funds available for recruitment purposes (including travel and advertisement).  Structurally spending advertising dollars and strategically managing our recruitment undertaking at the most fertile venues, (i.e. military installations, college job fairs, and career fairs in the various cities that have the demographics that we seek).  Fostering and maintaining relationships with colleges, the military components, and regional police academies.  Utilizing NPOs, SROs, and every encounter with the public, to model the positives of becoming a FWPD officer.  Partner with multiple church organizations and community groups including: o Congressman Marc Veasey Annual Job Fair o Texas Workforce Commission o Prairie View A&M University - Fort Worth Alumni Chapter o Workforce Solutions For Tarrant County o Unity in the Community Coalition o Tarrant County Gay Pride Week Association o Castleberry ISD o Greater Commission Baptist Church o Fort Hood Soldier for Life-Transition Assistance Program o NAACP How does FWPD recruit?
