Fort Worth Police Department Strategic Plan

Off-Site Testing

The FWPD Recruitment Unit recently began implementing off-site testing. Off-site testing allows applicants the opportunity to take the civil service exam at a location other than a single site in Fort Worth. The first off-site test was given at CUNY John Jay College in New York, NY, on March 4, 2016. Over 100 applicants took the test and a large number of those who passed

were sent through required physical fitness testing and then the background process. Our first foray into testing out-of-state proved to be successful and enlightening. Approximately 10% of Academy Class 141 tested at John Jay College. As a result of testing in New York, we have identified more efficacious ways to advertise, promote test dates, and condense portions of the hiring process to attract a larger pool of off-site testers and increase diversity in our academy classes.
