What is the future of FWPD recruiting?
Our efforts will continue and we are always looking for new and exciting ways to connect with today’s youth and potential candidates. Our PRO Team produced recruiting videos using Darth Vader, Batman, and the Running Man Challenge that have each gone viral on social media. 3 They also post recruiting information on Twitter, Facebook, and most recently, Pinterest and Instagram, to reach the Generation Y audience. We are hopeful that the expansion of our Lateral Entry Officer (LEO) program will greatly increase the number of qualified, TCOLE licensed officers, who are anxious and eligible to become part of the FWPD family. As of September 2016, 36 new FWPD officers completed the LEO Academy, and now serve the citizens of Fort Worth. We will also continue to use events like the annual Women in Law Enforcement career day to attract qualified, female candidates.
FWPD is in the process of establishing the following two committees:
Citizen Inclusion—Hiring In 2017, the Fort Worth Police Training Division will establish a committee for the purpose of identifying and selecting citizens to serve as Oral Review Board members. Citizen Oral Review Board members will receive assessment training and identify desired traits in those entry-level police applicants who will serve as the next generation of Fort Worth Police Officers. Incorporating citizens in the selection process will foster transparency, demonstrate greater accountability to the public, give citizens a more active role in the department, provide an opportunity for pre-service interaction, and help humanize policing. The department will advertise the policy governing citizen qualifications, selection, responsibilities, and conditions of continuance, the web page. Multiculturalism Committee The department is in the process of reinstating the Multicultural Committee. The committee will be a diverse body from all walks of life that will educate and sensitize police recruits to cultures and lifestyles they will encounter after graduation.
