As of 2014, the population that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD serves is approximately 856,916. The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) projects the population in Fort Worth will grow to an estimated 950,000 by 2021, and may exceed 1.3 million by 2040. The sources of population growth are due primarily to the following factors: longer life expectancy, high birth rates, immigration, and domestic migration due to a strong economy in Texas, relative to other states.
