Hockey day for the girls in Rockland

It was ‘hockey day for the girls’ at CIH Arena last Saturday, as the Clarence Rockland Girls Hockey Association (CRGHA) held its annual Lightning Day, a celebration of local girls minor hockey. The day featured nine Clarence-Rockland girls hockey teams in action, from Fundamentals (ages 4-6) through Senior (ages 18-21). The celebrations could be felt as soon as one walked into the CIHArena where kiosks and an inflatable dojowere set up to entertain the visitors. Bianka Louissez-Taylor, who plays at the Bantam level, sang the national anthem before every game. As part of the event, the CRGHA made a donation of $300 to Do It For Daron (DIFD), in support of young people who suffer in silence from the pain and stigma of mental illness. “It’s wonderful to see our girls play Canada’s game with such great sportsmanship and style,” said JeffHollett, CRGHA President. “Our association continues to grow and we would like to thank the community for all the support.” Pictured are the Fundamentals (ages 4-6) in action. —photo Maxime Myre
