MY CAREER TRAJECTORY From Nurse Practitioner to PRP Expert
I t’s crazy to look back on life’s winding —whether that’s helping them get ready for surgery or encouraging them to feel positive about themselves when they look in the mirror. paths. When I look at mine, I know a few key moments have shaped who I am today. As a nurse for over 30 years, I spent so much time looking after my patients’ well-being. I love being part of a solution that allows people to be their best selves. It’s this that motivated me to pursue a career trajectory from a nurse to a nurse practitioner. I want people to feel better
I love this job. I know when I look better, I feel better, so I enjoy helping others feel the same — maybe because I am a nurse first and foremost.
After my youngest graduated high school, I decided to return to school to earn my master’s degree. This meant my kids and I were enrolled in college together! With a master's, I could become a teacher, work in administration, or become a nurse practitioner. Because working with patients is one of my strengths and life passions, I chose to become a nurse practitioner. I then took a certification course with the National Laser Institute to administer Botox and other cosmetic procedures. I spent my life helping people heal or manage their illnesses, so why not also help them be more confident about themselves? I began part-time work administering Botox for local clients, but I knew I wasn’t getting the most out of my experience. I was doing good work, but I knew I could be learning more and perfecting my craft. That’s when I stumbled upon The Wellness Studio. They specialize in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) microneedling and aesthetics. I could not ask for a better place to help my clients achieve results and feel great. At The Wellness Studio, we support each other and work as a supportive bunch that only wants to see our patients succeed and lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
I love this job. I know when I look better, I feel better, so I enjoy helping others feel the same — maybe because I am a nurse first and foremost.
And that’s the “crazy” life path that led me to where I am today.

CHRONIC ANGER, YOUR HEART, AND YOUR HEALTH How This Emotion Is Doing You Harm
Anger is a common emotion. It’s natural, and it’s a part of how you respond to certain circumstances in your environment. It’s how you express extreme displeasure. However, new research suggests chronic anger can be detrimental to your health. Essentially, it comes down to this: If you are stressed, tense, easily irritable, angry, and “snippy” all the time, you may be doing serious harm to your well-being. Studies have already shown a link between anger and the heart. People who showed signs of feeling anger on a regular basis experienced higher rates of heart disease. The first studies on the impact of anger came out in the 1950s and have since been confirmed: Chronic anger physically harms the heart. Why? When you get angry or upset, your brain triggers the release of specific hormones, including cortisol and norepinephrine. These hormones are responsible for triggering the “fight or flight” response. When these hormones enter the bloodstream, your heart rate increases and arteries constrict. This helps to more effectively pump blood to the arms and legs for a fight or a flight.
hormones course through the body more frequently, stressing the arteries and internal organs. As a person ages, this stress can become more damaging.
One study that appeared in the Psychology and Aging Journal looked into this phenomenon. Researchers found that there is a link between frequently experiencing anger and increased inflammation and chronic illness for people ages 80 and older. This equated to more instances of heart disease and dementia. The study also looked at other emotions, including sadness, which has also been linked to heart disease and other inflammatory diseases. Through a number of tests involving 200 participants ages 59–93, the researchers concluded anger was far more detrimental to a person’s health than sadness. Ultimately, if you regularly experience rage and frustration, properly dealing with your anger is one of the best things you can do for your health. Every person’s situation is different, and it comes down to getting to the bottom of what makes you angry so you can work through it, whether you work through it alone or with a mental health professional. Take the steps to prioritize your mental and physical health, and your efforts will pay off tenfold in the long run. YOUR BEST FACE FORWARD How PRP Facials Can Rejuvenate Your Skin If you are getting a PRP injection, Denise will then inject the newly-activated serum into areas in desperate need of collagen and repair. This can include areas with crow’s feet, the nasal folds, the eyebrows, and the neck. Experiences may vary based on age, nutrition, and a person’s own PRP, but most patients will see changes within 30–60 days of treatment. ( Note: Denise has yet to meet a person who was disappointed with their results!) To cast a wider net for the influence of PRP, microneedling facials can offer rejuvenation for your entire face. While Denise continually applies the PRP serum onto the skin, you will undergo a microneedling process in three passes. This is a version of microdermabrasion that uses a pen with thousands of tiny needles to poke through your skin. The holes will stay open for two-to-three days, during which topical treatments, creams, and regimens may be more effective. The Wellness Studio uses numbing agents to prevent any pain or discomfort in this relatively painless process. Combining PRP with microneedling only enhances the strength of your PRP, but PRP injections are also a great tool. Don’t let your body feel the weight of life and stress. Your body is nothing short of miraculous. Your kidneys filter out the gunk that gums up your system, sweat keeps you cool, and your immune system protects you from deadly diseases around the clock. But just like anything else, sometimes your body needs a boost. The signs of aging and stress can show in the form of wrinkles, blemishes, and strains in one of the most obvious of places: your face.
Thankfully, your body has a solution for that, too — your face just needs a little help getting to it.

WATER WAYS
Why Water Is the Best Nutrient for You!
We have all heard the lecture about drinking eight glasses of water each day and how drinking enough H2O can help us stave off the weight, but do we really understand just how beneficial this nutrient is? Below are just a few of the reasons why water is so vital to life. Maintain balanced hydration. Your skin is a protective layer that keeps the necessary components of your body locked in and invaders locked out. So, taking care of your skin isn’t something we recommend solely for vanity; it’s a necessity for your body’s well-being! When your body is dehydrated, your skin can be dry and look wrinkled. But excess water will be filtered out through your kidneys. Find the perfect balance based on your weight, and use a moisturizer to maintain hydration and keep skin glowing and healthy. Keep it clean. Remember how excessive amounts of water are flushed out by your kidneys? Well, water and your kidneys actually get along great. Your kidneys use water to flush out the toxins trying to invade your body and cause diseases that lead to the degeneration of your muscles, joints, and organ function. Water becomes vital in making sure this doesn’t happen, and without water, your kidneys would struggle to push the gunk out of our body. As a result, water will also help regulate your digestive system! Get stronger. Your cells thrive on hydration. Without it, you will experience muscle fatigue and joint strain. Living an active lifestyle is a vital component to being healthy, but, when you work out, run, lift weights, or even walk without proper hydration, your body becomes tired faster and your muscles and joints become more prone to injury. Curb the pain and fill up on your water! Here’s what you can do! There are plenty of tricks to staying hydrated. Carry a reusable water bottle everywhere you go, and set reminders on your phone to check your water intake. Choose a diet rich in vegetables and fruits, which will inevitably be full of water and keep you hydrated. The best part? Our wellness experts can create a nutrition plan that makes water a priority!

NO-CARVE PUMPKIN DESIGNS!
Just in Time for Halloween
J ack-o’-lanterns go hand-in-hand with Halloween, but digging through the inside of a pumpkin is not something everyone enjoys. If you aren’t keen on cutting open a pumpkin, here are a few no- carve ideas you can try this Halloween! HAUNTED HOUSE Take a few pumpkins, stack them on top of each other, and create a spooky pumpkin haunted house! Then, use paint, balsa wood sheets, and hot glue to create silhouettes, ghosts, windows, and doors for a haunting effect! CREATIVE WITH STRING Use cotton twine and hot glue to create a web-like design on the surface of your pumpkin. Don’t forget to add a few plastic spiders! You can also use string art to create ghostly words or images. Lay our your design with small pegs or nails and wrap the string around them to reach your desired effect.
NOTHING BUT NET You can create eerie pumpkins using fishnet stockings. Spray-paint your pumpkin if desired — just make sure the design of the stockings will stand out. Once the paint is dry, cut the legs off the stockings, slide the pumpkin inside, remove the extra fabric around the stem, and use hot glue to secure it. COLORFUL PAINT Painting your Halloween pumpkins gives everyone a chance to participate. Be creative by using different designs, cutouts for silhouettes, drip paint to create a marble design, or nail polish and water to give white pumpkins a unique and vibrant look. A SPOOKY MONSTER By adding a witch hat, wrapping a pumpkin in cheesecloth, attaching spider legs, or tying on a vampire cape, you can create a pumpkin version of the most popular Halloween monsters. Along with these accessories, you can also use paint, construction paper, and other craft materials to add the details that will make your creation pop!
