Was Joseph Smith, Jun., what he first claimed to be, the author of the Book of Mormon? Certainly God did not make three thousand mistakes, or even one! The following comparison of Mormon teachings and doctrine, showing contra dictions and discrepancies in their own works, is made with a sincere prayer that the reader (if a Mormon), will not foolishly try to explain them away, but will study them through. The readers from other denominations will be astonished at such teachings (especially if a Christian), and if you have been deceived by the surface teach ings of the Mormon church, we pray that the following quotations and com parisons from the Mormon writings will cause you to realize that Mormon doc trine is man-made and not from God. 1. A. “As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become.” Lorenzo Snow, Millennial Star, Vol. 54 Gospel Through the Ages, Hunter, pages 105, 106 B. “For I know that God is not a par tial God, neither a changeable being; but He is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity.” Book of Mormon, Moroni, chap 8, verse 18 C o m m e n t : Here we see a direct con tradiction. One quotation déclarés God to be evolutionary, the other that God is an unchangeable being. According to Mormon teachings, if God was once a man and is now God, where did it begin? Do the Mormons believe in evolution? 2 . A. “ God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man . . Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith, mu r , „ P a g e 345 The Journal of Discourses, Vol. VI, p a g e 3 B. “By these things we know that there is a God in heaven, who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting the same unchangeable God . . . And that He created man . . .” Doctrine and Covenants, Sec. 20, verses 17, 18 G o m m e n t : The first quotation declares God to be an exalted man, the second that God is unchangeable and that He created man. We also read in the Doc trine and Covenants section 84, verse 16, that Adam was the first man. 3. A. “ Ques. Are there more Gods than one?” “Ans. Yes, many.” Catechism by Elder John Jacques, chap. TV, page 18 “ Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.” Doctrine and Covenants, Sec. 182, verse 20 B. “And Zeezrom said unto him: ‘Thou sayest there is a true and living God?’ And Amulek said: ‘Yea, there is a true and living God.’ Now Zeezrom said: ‘Is there more than one Godt’ And he answered, ‘No’.” Book of Mormon, Alma chap. 11, verses 26, 27, 28, 29 Mormonism teaches many gods, and all man has to do to become Page Twelve C o m m e n t :

a god is by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. (See Gospel through the Ages, chapter 16). According to the Book of Mormon, Amulek, who will say nothing which is contrary to the Spirit of the Lord, (See Alma, chap. 11, verse 22), de clares there is only one god. 4. A. “In the beginning, the head of the gods called a council of the gods; and they came together and con cocted a plan to create the world and people it.” Prophet Joseph Smith, The Journal of Discourses, Vol. VI, page 5.

school of earth life similar to that through which we are now passing. He became God—an exalted be ing . . .” Milton R. Hunter, Gospel Through the Ages, page 104 B. “Behold, I say unto you, he that denieth these things knoweth not the gospel of Christ; yea, he has not read the scriptures; if so, he does not understand them. For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in Him there is no variableness, neither shadow of changing? “And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow of changing, then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a god who is not a God of miracles . . .” “And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of mira cles and yet be an unchangeable Be ing? And behold, I say unto you, he changeth not; if so He would cease to be God . . .” Book of Mormon, Mormon chap. 9, verses 8, 9, 10, 19. C o m m e n t : When we spoke to a dear Mormon friend concerning the above quotations from the Book of Mormon, our friend said that this part of the Book of Mormon was mistranslated. We have heard others declare that it only means that God does not change His mind. Regardless of the explanation, the fact remains that the quotations are con tradictory and it is impossible to reconcile one with the other. We also read in the Pearl of Great Price, book of Moses, chapter 1, verse 3: “And God spake unto Moses, say ing: ‘Behold, I am the Lord God Al mighty, and Endless is my name; for I am without beginning of days or end of years . . .” 6 . A. “He (God) created men, as we create eur own children; for there is no other process of creation in heaven or on the earth.” President and Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourse«, Vol. 11, page 122 B. “For behold, by the power of his word man came upon the face of the earth, which earth was created by the power of his word. Wherefore, if God being able to speak and the world was, and to speak and man was created . . .” Book of Mormon, Jacob chap. 4, verse 9. C o m m e n t : The first quotation states that man is born a child of God by physical relationship. The other that man is a creation of God by the power of His Word. We also read that man kind becomes a new creature (new creation) and a son of God by repent ing of his sins (Book of Mormon, Mosiah, chapter 27, verses 24, 25, 26.) This statement is also contradictory to the first quotation that there is no other process of creation in heaven or on earth, than the way we create our own children (physical relationship). By this declaration, He ascribes this council of gods their proper posi tion, false gods; and if false gods, their concocted plan is false. 5. A. Remember that God our heavenly Father was perhaps once a child, and mortal like we are, and rose step by step in the scale of progress, in the school of advancement; has moved forward and overcome until He has arrived at the point where He now is.” Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, . . . . , Vol. 1, page 128 Mormon prophets have continue ously taught the sublime truth that God the Eternal Father was once a mortal man who passed through a
