THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S

Jesus spent an entire night in prayer before selecting His disciples. It was a most important step to take. Much of His time hereafter would be given to the training of these men to carry on His wiork after His departure. The disciples must become teachers, the followers must become leaders. The Master used the so-called laboratory method in His teaching. He first gave them the example and then sent them out to demonstrate for themselves. How „wise and patient he was! How stupid and stubborn they were! Nevertheless through Divine grace what great and glorious, workers the apostles became! “ Ye are built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone.” Eph. 2:20. fig Isjjgl m m BEAUTIFIED BLOTS There is a story of a young woman—a relative of Buskin—who had been given by a friend of hers a most beautiful silk handkerchief. By accident she overturned the ink pot on it, as it lay on the table, and soiled a good part of it. She wept until her heart literally ached when she thought of thé gift, ruined by her own carelessness; and how she reproached her self! About that time Buskin came in and saw her distress, as she held up the spoiled handkerchief. But he smilingly took it from her. Artist that he was, as well as poet, he went to his study and set to work upon that blot, drawing figures upon it; and then with delicate brushes he painted a beautiful picture, and re turned the handkerchief to her. “ Oh,” she said, “ that is not my handkerchief.” “ Yes, it is yours.” “ Minet” “ Yes. I simply took the ugly blot and transformed it into a picture.” How often God has done that, if we could only see it. He has taken our blotted life; when we have been sorely disappointed, and we thought we would have to go marred and mutilated through all our days, and He has handed it baek with that mutilated background trans formed into a picture. That is the beauty of being a Christian. That is what the blessing of Christ is, if we only realize it. —Straton.
