IP Finalizes Weyerhaeuser Pulp Business Purchase International Paper has completed its acquisition of Weyerhaeuser’s pulp business for approximately $2.2 billion in cash, subject to post-closing adjustments. Because the transaction is a purchase of assets, Inter- national Paper expects to realize a tax benefit with an estimated net present value of approximately $300 million. International Paper expects annual synergies of ap- proximately $175 million by the end of 2018, which will require the need for one-time costs of approxi- mately $85 million. In this transaction, International Paper acquired five pulp mills and two converting facilities that produce fluff pulp, softwood pulp, and specialty pulp prod- ucts for a number of consumer applications includ- ing diapers, other hygiene products, tissue, and textiles. The acquired business has approximately 1,900 employees around the world, with manufactur- ing operations based in Canada, Poland and the Unit- ed States, located in Mississippi, Georgia and North Carolina. The combined businesses will be called Global Cel- lulose Fibers, led by Senior Vice President Jean-Michel Ribieras, and reported as a separate business segment beginning with the company’s release of earnings for the fourth quarter of 2016. Messe Düsseldorf To Rebuild South Entrance For drupa The Supervisory Board and the shareholders of Messe Düsseldorf have approved plans for the com- plete reconstruction of the fairground’s south en- trance and, subsequently, Hall 1. The work is scheduled to start in May 2017, after the interpack trade fair, and should be completed in summer 2019. Overall, Messe Düsseldorf will invest around Euro 636 million until 2030. The new South Entrance will give Messe Düsseldorf a contemporary presence directly on the banks of the Rhine river with a view toward Düsseldorf.Trade fair visitors and convention delegates will be wel- comed by a new illuminated and translucent awning, 83,950 square feet in size and about 65 feet high. After interpack 2017, Messe Düsseldorf plans to de- molish Halls 1 and 2 and to replace them with a new building that will be immediately adjacent to the foyer along its entire width. With 518 feet in length, 252 feet in width and com- prising more than 129,160 square feet, the new hall will be about the size of the existing halls 8a and 8b.
