The ground is still wet from the late winter thaw and also thanks to the current April showers. But track and field season is in full force thanks to the Dome Series at the indoor track and field setup in Orléans. Rockland District High School (RDHS) fielded its first contingent of track athletes for the DomeThree series on April 17. Coach Karen Kryviak, back leading the school’s track program after a year’s sabbatical for maternity leave, expressed satisfaction with the results of RDHS’ first entry into the 2015 track season. «Good results,» Kryviak said. «The best front-runner was Matt Rossi in senior boys’ 100-metre and also Tannery Van Every in the senior boys’ triple jump.» Van Every trains with the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club in addition to his re- gular regimen at RDHS. Another student marked out for possible achievements this season is GavinWestbrook, a recent arrival from New Brunswick. «He’s done some very high-level compe- titions back there,» said Kryviak, adding that Westbrook is a long-distance runner, com- peting in the 1500-metre and 3000-metre events. This year, Kryviak noted, the team’s skills and strengths seem more spread out with entries in almost every single track and field event, except for the pole vault.
