SCHEURER MAGAZ INE 24 80 YEARS OF CARE & CONNECTION Every day, our team of 820 medical professionals interact with countless individuals, all with the purpose of providing Better Health and Better Life to everyone. It’s easy to take for granted what the Thumb of Michigan has to offer, especially if we’ve lived here our entire lives. It’s made up of people who care about each other and the environment around them. That’s why, as part of our 80th anniversary celebration, we asked what Scheurer Health means to you. The following writings were all submitted by someone who has been influenced one way or another by Scheurer Health. We can’t thank you enough for all of the overwhelming responses that we received. I graduated from nursing school in 1953. I worked several places and completed my career at Scheurer Hospital as the OB and ER supervis- er and retired in 1994. Dr. Scheurer was very skilled at his profession and had a unique sense of humor. He once told a story of an at-home baby delivery where he had to fight off the family cat with one hand while delivering the baby with the other! He physically instructed the house- keeping crew how to clean the hospital and his high standards of cleanliness continue today. Dr. Scheurer did not want the hospital named after him, but he was over- ruled! -Winona Shetler
