80+ Years of Scheurer Stories

The following poem was submitted by Ted Leipprandt, a lifelong staple of the Pigeon community and eventual resident of both Country Bay Village and Country Gardens with his wife, Peg Leipprandt. Ted and Peg were heavily involved with Scheurer Health throughout the years, from fundraising for the new hospital in 1970 to the Auxiliary to anything inbetween. After 68 years of marriage, both passed away in the spring of 2025. When Ted wasn’t busy volunteering his time with the Pigeon Rotary Club, Methodist Church and anyone else that needed a helping hand, Ted was quite the poet. Below is what he had to say about Dr. Scheurer before Ted’s passing.

Doctor Scheurer Almost ninety years ago, a new doctor came to town,

He rented a second story building, and began to settle down. He made room for his oce, where patients he would see, And that was just the beginning, of his legacy. He was Clare, and his wife Clara, but we seldom heard his name,

He was Doc, or Dr. Scheurer, to everyone who came. A small town doctor, in those days, had to know it all,

How to remove tonsils, or appendix, or set broken bones after a fall. He helped treat many diseases, delivered babies by the score, Even called on patients in their homes, going door to door. He had one nurse who helped him, everyone like that lady, Ruth, Even though he wasn’t a dentist, he knew how to treat, a bad tooth. My mother Lillian, was a certified R.N., When Doc needed more help, he called her again, and again. As Doc’s practice was no longer new, He decided it was time, to become part of the community too. So when the Pigeon Rotary Club was chartered, in 1937, Doc would become a member, that was a given. Eventually Doc and Clara, decided to start a family, With Margaret, Maurine and Clare, they were happy to have three.
