LEMONADE DAY
Feature
At Shorewood Senior Campus, Marketing Director Ellie Starks says Lemonade Day creates a meaningful connection between generations. “Lemonade Day is a true community event that feels intergenerational to us at Shorewood,” Starks says. “The participants clearly gain the knowledge of what it takes to run a stand – the creativity, budgeting, planning, and math skills involved – but they also practice soft skills that include interacting with people, gratitude, and even upselling in the moment.”
The event also gives community members the opportunity to encourage young entrepreneurs. “Our residents are the perfect customers who love supporting youth endeavors and also experience the optimistic energy of this young group,” Starks says. For Starks, the program offers a valuable opportunity for connection. “In an age of technology and kids-on-screens, it’s refreshing to be part of an event that connects people,” she says.
Looking ahead, the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce sees opportunities to continue expanding Lemonade Day’s reach. “We are excited to work with one of our newest sponsors of the program, Rochester Public Schools Community Education, and introduce ‘Junior Market’ to a few of their preestablished business and entrepreneurship classes,” Gowen says. As Lemonade Day continues to grow in the Rochester area, the program’s impact reaches far beyond a single day of selling lemonade. It helps young people build confidence, understand the value of hard work, and discover that even the smallest ideas can become something meaningful.
