Protection The ESCON2 has extensive, configurable pro‑ tective circuits against overcurrent, excess temperature, under- and overvoltage, voltage transients, short-circuits in the motor cable, as well as protection in the event of feedback signal loss. An adjustable current limitation protects the motor and load. Motor temperature sensor (NTC)1 A temperature sensor can be connected directly to the ESCON2 and incorporated into the sys‑ The control of holding brakes can be integrated in the device status management. Delay times for switching on and off can be individually con‑ figured. 1In preparation tem as motor protection. Control of holding brakes1

I/O functionality ESCON2 features a comprehensive set of ana‑ log and digital inputs and outputs for process control in standalone mode. For example, set values and offsets for current and speed can be used as switchable fixed values, PWM values, or analog values in command operations. Control signals for activation, direction, stop, ramps, and limit switches can also be incorporated, as can feedback signals (analog/digital) for current, speed, and the actual device status. I/O current mode (IOCM) The configured inputs deliver the set value cur‑ rent and the target torque. The current control The configured inputs deliver the velocity de‑ mand value. The speed controller with inner cur‑ rent control loop runs on the ESCON2. CANopen loop runs on the ESCON2. I/O velocity mode (IOVM) As a standardized motion control slave, ES‑ CON2 can easily be integrated into the system manager tools and motion libraries of various PLC manufacturers. The data exchange and command functions make use of the CiA ® 402 protocol (Device Profile for Drives and Motion Control). Cyclic Synchronous Torque (CST) The master executes the path planning and sends the target torque cyclically and syn‑ chronously to the ESCON2 via the network. The torque/current control loop runs on the ESCON2. The ESCON2 sends the sensor mea‑

surements for the actual speed and current val‑ ues to the master. Cyclic Synchronous Velocity (CSV) The master executes the path planning and sends the target speed cyclically and synchro‑ nously via the network to the ESCON2 on which the speed control loop is running. The ESCON2 sends the sensor measurements for the actual speed and current values to the master. Profile velocity mode (PVM) In profile velocity mode, the drive is moved with a defined set speed and ramp profiles. It keeps the speed constant until a new target speed is set. Sinusoidal commutation (FOC) The signals from the Hall sensors or encoders (digital incremental, SSI, BiSS-C unidirectional) are used in the ESCON2 to generate sinusoi‑ dal motor currents using field-oriented control (FOC). As a result, the motor runs smoothly and precisely. Feed-forward speed control The combination of feedback and feed forward control provides ideal motion behavior. Feed for‑ ward control reduces control error. The ESCON2 supports feed-forward acceleration and speed control. Custom persistent memory Four objects are available for saving application- specific values. For example, axis number or identification.
