Esta mayor apreciación de la pluralidad teórica y la perplejidad que rodea al conflicto ha resultado muy saludable para el pensamiento y la práctica psicoanalítica. La neurociencia moderna confirma que la mayor marte de nuestra actividad mental es inconsciente y que la vida mental está plagada de conflictos. En contra de todos los pronósticos, el psicoanálisis continúa proporcionando la comprensión más profunda de la mente humana con sus conflictos esenciales (reconocidos explícita o implícitamente, en el centro del escenario o entre bastidores).
