MIYC's Community Relations January Update Thanks to all of our generous members who contributed to Toys for Tots in November and December! We collected over $6,000 in Toys and monetary donations for those less fortunate in our area. As you may know, we as members of MIYC support many community organizations. In the past, we were part of the Living Reef Project for Marco Island and Goodland, and we continue to support: Marco Island Youth Sailing Program Toys for Tots Marco Patriots Our Daily Bread Food Pantry Flags for our Heroes (sponsored by Noon Rotary) For the Love of Cats Our focus for January is our continued focus on Our Daily Bread Food Pantry on the island and Flags for Our Heroes. We are joining the Marco Island Noontime Rotary in partnership with the YMCA to celebrate our Heroes with a spectacular visual display of hundreds of American Flags f lying from 7-foot masts on the open lots along San Marco Rd at the corner of Sand Hill . Flags will be displayed beginning February 20 through February 25, with the moving Opening ceremony on President's Day, February 21st at 5:00pm. Proceeds from this event will go back to serving our Community's critical needs. Featured charities and community services are Marco Area YMCA for youth development- scholarships for the youth who cannot afford it, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Collier Harvest, Rotary’s Camp Florida for disabled children, Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, Joy of Giving (providing underprivileged children with Christmas gif ts & necessities), Project Graduation, Shelter for Abused Women and Children, Meals of Hope, Marco Island Charter Middle School, two youth development camps, Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Dictionary Day, Whereas last year we featured our Club Veterans as our Heroes, this year we are planning to be a Diamond Sponsor of the event for the benef it of our Community. We will be collecting monetary donations from the Club for this local effort through January 31 st . You can make a check payable to the Marco Island Rotary Club Foundation with Flags for Our Heroes in the memo if you would like to support this community event as a member of the Marco Island Yacht Club. You can give your check to our Reception Desk to the attention of Vicki Bretthauer. Remember, your contribution is tax deductible as the Marco Island Rotary Foundation is a 501c3 organization. We continue to need your help with food for our community. The need is dire for some persons in our community. The basket for Our Daily Bread Food Pantry donations is in the MIYC lobby so feel free to drop off items any time you are coming to the Club.
