College – Issue 45 2026

Round Square is an important part of student life at Christ’s College, providing opportunities for leadership, service, international understanding, and personal growth. As Head of Round Square, Yannis Zhang has played a key role in promoting these values and helping students make the most of the programme. He details the impact of Round Square and why its opportunities continue to resonate with College students.

and promoting activities to acting as MCs and delivering speeches or citations. These experiences help students develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while encouraging boys to step outside their comfort zones. International opportunities, especially the service projects, also develop these skills. What role do you think Round Square plays in shaping the College culture and values? Round Square helps to shape the culture of Christ’s College by giving students opportunities to connect with people and communities outside school. One of the key IDEALS, Internationalism, encourages students to learn and appreciate different cultures. Through exchanges, service projects, and other overseas opportunities such as student conferences, boys gain experiences that broaden their understanding of the world. These

experiences help students become more respectful and engaged with people from different backgrounds, contributing to a strong and connected school environment and an emphasis on global citizenship. The Round Square IDEAL of Service also supports College virtues of compassion and stewardship. What would you say to a student who thinks Round Square isn’t for them? Round Square is for everyone, regardless of their background, culture, and interests. It values diversity and gives all students the opportunity to get involved. You do not have to be on a Round Square committee to contribute. Simply attending events, supporting activities, or applying for the exchanges and service projects are great ways to be involved. The IDEAL of Adventure is about encouraging students to step out of their comfort zone, challenge themselves physically and personally, and learn through doing. Every student can do that.
