référence. Des showrooms s’ouvrent un peu partout : Milan, New York, Londres, Paris.

had studied engineering and loved glass. He often went to see craftsmen in Murano and, after working in a traditional hand-cut mosaic workshop, he had a vision: to create glass mosaic tesserae in coloured glass paste to make mosaics on an industrial scale. He bought a plot near Vicenza, built his factory and got working. At the time the company was called Vetricolor like the 2 cm square mosaic tile he had just invented. A revolutionary material which, thanks to its resistance, covered a multitude of building facades in the 1960’s. The show was on the road. Renato Bisazza exported his mosaics across the globe, to adorn Hong Kong’s first skyscrapers as well as the domes of mosques in the Middle East. Renamed Bisazza in 1989, the company’s positioning became more sophisticated and more decorative, and mosaic entered the home. The arrival of Alessandro Mendini as

artistic director in 1995 gave the business international credit, and Bisazza became a reference. Showrooms opened up everywhere: Milan, New York, London, Paris. While Piero Bisazza joined his father at the head of the company, Rossella pursued a career as a classical dancer. However back problems forced her to renounce, and we know what came next. The duo developed partnerships with designers such as Tom Dixon, Jaime Hayon, Paola Navone, India Mahdavi and Patricia Urquiola, creating collections that increased brand awareness and kept Bisazza in tune with the times. In 2012, Rossella and Piero inaugurated the Bisazza Foundation, and five years later launched marble mosaics... A brilliant idea, as proven by Studio KO. Somewhere between Pompeii and Piero Portaluppi. The Italy of dreams, in short.
