Overall Job Purpose:

- Development of the Facilities Management and Estates strategy, culture and function in order to contribute to the development and achievement of the University’s corporate plan, strategic objectives and overall financial viability.

- Development and implementation of the University Estates Strategy.

- Provision of effective leadership and management of all Estates Management staff.

- Effective budgetary management.

- Achievement and maintenance of the highest possible quality of delivery within the resources available.

Responsible to the Vice Chancellor or Nominee for:

1. Preparing and implementing a Facilities Management which ensures that service development is consistent with the University’s corporate plan and strategic objectives.

2. Developing and implementing an Estate Strategy for the University, which supports the Teaching and Learning Strategy and the Corporate Plan.

3. Ensuring, as change agent, that the Facilities Management and Estates structure is supported by a programme of appropriate staff deployment, development and culture change.

4. Leading and directing the operational Facilities Management function, to ensure the provision of a professional and cost effective service which underpins the University’s core business and which is founded on best commercial practice.

5. Ensuring optimum use of IT, in line with the University’s IT Strategy and in close liaison with the Director of Information Systems Services.

6. Regularly reviewing all services to assess levels of requirement, ensuring that customer satisfaction is achieved.

7. Reviewing and managing a system of internal Service Level Agreements, to assess and monitor value for money, providing key Performance Indicators within each area of work, ensuring that targets and plans are incorporated into overall performance management. 8. Developing and implementing robust business plans for all the trading accounts and delivering the specified level of contribution to the University, including bringing in external business where appropriate.

9. Negotiating and, where necessary, re-negotiating facilities and procurement contracts.
