Huge overtime win for the Hawks

a force to reckon with. The last time Hawkesbury and Brockville squared off, the Braves shut out the Hawks 4-0 and outshot them 33 to 25. It wasn’t the case this week and Jason Brochu laid the smackdown on the Braves in the first with his tenth, thanks to Ross Mandigo’s and Hunter Racine’s pass work. Brockville tied the game with a power play goal in the second, but Jonathan brought back the Hawks on top less than two minutes later. Relentless, the Braves tied the game again before the second buz- zer, setting up the table for an interesting third period. After less than a minute of play, Liam Folkes took advantage of a juicy rebound in the slot to inflict a tough one to the Hawks. But a slashing penalty at mid-period ended up being deadly for the Brave, who couldn’t stop the power play offensive of Hawkesbu- ry. Alone between the circles, Phil Johans- son pulled an Ovechkin with a thunderous slapshot that left goalie Bo Taylor dazed. The Hawks then survived a nasty 5 on 4 at 18:57 as overtime was looming over. The fourth period was a short one and, af- ter a botched 2 on 1 by the Braves, Damien Charette took off with the puck and ended up beating Taylor on the glove side with a backhand shot. The Hawks have now won three in a row but tonight will be a test of two wills against the defending champions, the Carleton Place Canadians. Puck drops at 7:30 at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex.
