THE MUSEUM EXPERIENCE The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is legendary and a great place to start. Known as The Cowboy to locals, this museum tells the true and diverse stories of the West. As America’s premier institution of Western history, art and culture, it is a mecca for visitors worldwide. As one of the crown jewels of Automobile Alley, Oklahoma Contemporary provides a space for all to come and experience contemporary art, encounter new ideas and explore creative potential. With free exhibitions and related programming, the OK Contemporary encourages artistic expressions in all its forms. In downtown, you can find the beloved Oklahoma City Museum of Art . Along with rotating exhibits from around the world, their ever-growing permanent collection boasts one of the world’s largest public collections of Dale Chihuly glass and their Noble Theater shows some of the best international, independent and documentary films. The First Americans Museum is not solely billed as an art museum but uses art and artifacts to tell the collective histories of Oklahoma’s 39 distinct tribal nations. Year- round programming also features performing artists, musicians and dancers that are truly captivating. The Chickasaw Nation boasts Exhibit C in the heart of Bricktown. This gallery and retail space exhibits and sells work by Native American artists and artisans. Exhibit C provides access to authentic expressions by Native American artists from across the state. Additionally, world-class First American art is showcased at the Red Earth Art Center in the south lobby of the renovated BancFirst Tower. This gallery space features American Indian fine art, including paintings, sculpture, pottery and basketry. Red Earth also operates a one-of-a-kind gift shop adjacent to the gallery.
