Holiday Crafting Workshop

Nov. 29 – Dec. 3, 2021, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Doug Tew Therapeutic Recreation Center $25.00 Angie Lowe, alowe@dothan.org Get ready to get those creative juices flowing! Enjoy Christmas snacks, goodies, and socializing with friends while creating beautiful crafts. Participants will make a variety of Christmas crafts such as ornaments, holiday decorations and gifts for family members. This workshop is for intellectually challenged individuals ages 18 and up. Participants will need to bring a lunch each day. Transportation provided to and from activity for 18 participants inside Dothan city limits. On a Roll Bowling

Grab your shoes and bowling ball! Recreation, socialization, and fun in a supervised environment for intellectually challenged adults ages 22 and above. Participants must be able to go to the restroom independently and have manageable behaviors and healthcare needs. Transportation will be provided to and from activity for 18 participants inside the Dothan city limits. Register at Doug Tew Therapeutic Recreation Center (300 Garland Street). Dates:

Dress up in your warm Christmas pajamas, grab your chairs and blankets and come watch a holiday movie with the Dothan Leisure Services Therapeutic Recreation program staff. We will serve hot cocoa, smores, drinks and popcorn. Parents/guardians must provide transportation. Date: Location:

Evening of Respite

Dec. 8, Jan. 12, & Feb. 9, Wednesday, 5:30-7:30 p.m. In partnership with Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine students and First United Methodist Church Ministries, Dothan Leisure Services Therapeutic Recreation Center will host an Evening of Respite to parents of children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. Evening of Respite will include dinner, gym games, crafts, socialization, music, and other fun activities. Evening of Respite provides temporary care in a supervised setting for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.Care is provided so that caregivers can enjoy an evening out. Anyone ages 5 and above that has been diagnosed with a disability that is intellectual or physical, free of a history of aggressive behavior, and not 100% oxygen or excessively medically fragile is eligible. Participants must also be able to go to the restroom independently and have manageable behaviors and healthcare needs. Dates:

Volunteer! We need you! The Dothan Leisure Services Therapeutic Recreation program is always recruiting volunteers to assist with Therapeutic Recreation programs, Special Olympics sports programs and the Dothan Miracle League. Opportunities to volunteer include helping participants in a classroom setting with life skills programming, arts and crafts, games, summer camps, coaching, participating in unified sports programs and serving as a buddy by aiding and encouragement in Miracle League baseball.
