The Division is also responsible for enforcing the City’s water quality compliance efforts including the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and the investigation and resolution of code violations.
Accomplishments Maintained Irvine Ready!, an award-winning 100 percent online permitting and plan check system, to provide consistently high customer service levels. Issued over 10,000 building permits representing more than $2 billion dollars in new development and community reinvestment over the 2021-2023 budget cycle. Key economic development projects include City of Hope, Hoag Hospital, and Edwards Life Sciences expansions, the new Wild Rivers Water Park, Astoria/Lynx affordable housing and the new headquarters for Rivian electric vehicles. Expanded the self-serve permit system to simplify residential remodel permits and improvement projects. Redesigned the building and safety website to streamline customer interface and online permitting. Developed the requirements for the new building electrification ordinance and is expected to be implemented July 2023.
