GLOSSARY

Transportation Management Association (TMA) Transportation Management Plan (TMP)

An association comprised of employers and property owners that promotes the use of alternative forms of commuting to the single occupant vehicle. Traffic congestion relief and air quality benefits are the primary goals of TMA.

A plan that promotes the reduction of single occupant vehicle use in order to improve air quality and relieve congestion.

Transportation Subventions

Funds from outside sources used to construct transportation improvements that must be used for specific projects.

Trip Reduction Ordinance (TRO)

An ordinance that requires employers with 50 or more employees and/or driving aged students reporting to one site at least three days a week, six months per year to participate in the program.

Transportation Service for Irvine Seniors (TRIPS)

A transit service for Irvine seniors and persons with disabilities, providing pre- scheduled transportation and regular shuttle services.

Unencumbered Appropriation

That portion of an allocation not yet expended or committed to a specific purpose.

Unexpended Appropriation

That portion of an allocation not yet actually paid.

University of California, Irvine (UCI)

A traditional four-year and graduate level research university that offers courses of study in a variety of subject areas (www.uci.edu).

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

Used to manage the delivery of voice information over the Internet.

Year-End Surplus

Funds remaining at the end of a fiscal year that are available for allocation or for one-time purchases (not for on-going programs or services).
