COMMUNITY PARKS & SPECIAL EVENTS SUMMARY OF SERVICES
Community Parks and Special Events provides recreation and education programs for all ages, afterschool and summer youth programs, community facility reservations, and self-directed experiences at 22 community parks, 39 neighborhood parks, and five special facilities (Bommer Canyon Land Preserve, Bommer Canyon Trailhead, Quail Hill Trailhead, Turtle Rock Nature Center and Adventure Playground). Key citywide annual special events include Irvine Global Village Festival, Summer Concert Series, Holidayz in the Park, Holiday Tree Lighting, Pacific Symphony, and Veterans and Memorial Day commemorative ceremonies. Program Participation: Participation in Child Services offerings, including Kids Club, summer camps and after-school programs, increased 24 percent to surpass FY 2018-19 pre-pandemic levels. Special Events: Emphasizing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), the City held inaugural events for Pride in Irvine, Juneteenth Freedom Celebration, Fiesta Latina and Mid-Autumn Festival. Other major events included the Summer Concert Series with an attendance of 18,000 and the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony with an attendance of 6,000. Signature Event: The 2022 Irvine Global Village Festival experienced a highly energized post- pandemic resurgence with over 25,000 attendees. Staff-Led Classes: Participation in staff-led classes exceeded pre-pandemic levels with 572 classes serving 16,476 participants. Accomplishments
