SENIORS SUMMARY OF SERVICES
Senior Services operates the Lakeview Senior Center, Rancho Senior Center, and the Trabuco Center. Programs include health and recreation classes, educational workshops, and nutrition and support services. The Lakeview Senior Center also offers the Keen Center for Senior Resources, which provides information and assistance services to seniors and their families. The Irvine Senior Citizens Council is the advisory body to the City Council on matters pertaining to older adults.
Accomplishments
Strategic Plan for Seniors: Created, with extensive community outreach, a new five-year strategic plan for older adults for FY 2023-24 through 2027-28. The Plan focuses on five areas: Healthy Living, Housing and Emergency Preparation, Marketing and Communication, Social Well-Being and Addressing Isolation, and Transportation. Outreach & Community Engagement: Implemented 21 assistance programs, including a new Health Insurance Advocacy Programs (HICAP), and two support groups: Caregivers for Persons with Dementia, and Loss of a Spouse. Distributed over 5,300 food boxes in collaboration with Community Action Partnership. Conducted over 600 care management home visits and 1,500 phone calls to aide homebound seniors. Doubled volunteer program to 408 participants providing over 20,000 hours of service. Nutrition Program: Partnered with Age Well Senior Services to administer the federally funded Elderly Nutrition Program to meet the higher demand from the COVID-19 pandemic.
