TRANSPORTATION SUMMARY OF SERVICES

The TRIPS program provides low-cost, wheelchair-accessible transportation to Irvine seniors and adults with disabilities. TRIPS supports independent living and community involvement through safe, reliable, professional paratransit service. Rides are provided in paratransit buses to locations within Irvine and surrounding areas for essential needs involving grocery shopping, medical appointments, work, school, senior centers, and social activities. In case of emergency, TRIPS will assist with evacuation transportation. The Irvine Residents with Disabilities Advisory Board and Irvine Senior Citizens Council provide advisory input for the program. New Software for Increased Program Efficiency: Implemented new real-time scheduling, routing , and trip reporting software resulting in a 49 percent reduction in ride turndowns and a 15.5 percent increase in program participants.  Senior Meal Delivery: Continued collaboration with Meals-on-Wheels Program from July 2021 to January 2023 for meal delivery to over 5,395 seniors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Special Emergency Response: Transported eight Senior Hiking Excursion residents stranded at Devil’s Punchbowl, in the City of Lancaster, in January 2023.  Grant Funding: Awarded $253,000 in federal funding through the Orange County Transit Authority to support senior mobility needs.
