Accomplishments
The Technology and Innovation Unit has made significant contributions through the implementation of a new CAD/RMS computer management system. The CAD/RMS computer management system has consolidated information into a single platform, enhancing their ability to respond to incidents quickly and efficiently. With its state-of-the-art features, the CAD/RMS system provides a centralized platform for managing data, allowing officers to easily access critical information in real-time. Additionally, the system offers improved data analytics capabilities, enabling the Department to analyze crime patterns and make informed decisions about resource allocation. The Technology and Innovation and Records Units implemented the most contemporary method of tracking and reporting crime statistics. The NIBRS/CIBRS reporting has improved the Department's ability to gather and analyze crime data. This reporting system represents a significant upgrade over the traditional Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system, providing a more comprehensive picture of criminal activity. NIBRS/CIBRS enables the department to identify emerging crime trends and allocate resources accordingly. Furthermore, the new reporting system aligns with federal standards, improving the Department's ability to share data with other law enforcement agencies. The Technology and Innovation and Records Units implemented a system to allow for the collection of Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA) data effective January 1, 2022. In accordance with AB-953, Information is collected during law enforcement stops which includes actions performed during the stop, as well as, perceived demographic information. The Office of Public Relations facilitated many community outreach events and programs designed to strengthen ties with the diverse Irvine community, including: Department Open House, National Night Out, Coffee with a Cop, Boba with a Cop, and Community Police Academy. In addition, the Chinese Community Police Academy provided Chinese residents with a better understanding of Irvine Police Department practices, procedures, and culture. The program was highly successful, and feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. The Office of Public Relations also hosted several Neighborhood Watch meetings in various villages across the city, bringing together local residents, law enforcement officials, and other stakeholders to discuss ways to enhance safety and security. These meetings provided an opportunity for community members to voice their concerns and to learn about the resources and strategies available to them to prevent crime. As a result of these meetings, the Office of Public Relations was able to improve its relationship with local residents and increase community engagement.
