Lancashire’s Best Bits

MONDAY 2ND – FRIDAY 6TH OCTOBER

Enjoy the gorgeous Lancashire countryside, its waterways and railway lines, as well as visits to great houses and halls and plenty of time for relaxation & enjoyment. We also include some added extras including lunch on our canal cruise, wine with dinner on two evenings and cream tea. Day 1 Following a collection from home we head to Preston and check into our hotel with time to relax and unpack before evening meal. Day 2 We begin our day with a visit to Gawthorpe Hall Gardens. A seventeenth century house with a terraced garden and woodland garden with rhododendrons and azaleas. Later, we make our way to Riley Green Marina to board our narrow boat for a cruise along the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Our 3 hours round canal cruise passes through lovely countryside, where you can enjoy Lancashire’s nature, wildlife and have a relaxing afternoon. During our cruise, we enjoy a taste of ‘Lancashire Fare’ with our two-course lunch on the light, airy & spacious boat where each table has a panoramic view of the canal. Day 3 Today, we travel to Bury where we can browse the world famous Bury Market. Later on, we step back in time for a nostalgic trip on a steam train along the East Lancashire Railway through the beautiful Lancashire countryside from Bury to Rawtenstall. Afterwards, we return to our hotel where we enjoy Cream Tea and time to relax before dinner this evening. Day 4 Today begins with a guided tour of the magnificent Samlesbury Hall, a half- timbered medieval house built in 1325 in the traditional black and white. Afterwards, we enjoy a scenic journey on our way to the famous Oswaldtwistle Mills shopping village. The iconic former weaving mill has over 100 retailers under one roof, as well as restaurants, ice cream parlour, craft centre, and even a Textile and Heritage Museum. We enjoy a glass of wine with dinner this evening. Day 5 We depart after a leisurely breakfast and make our way home.

Brighton & Eastbourne

MONDAY 25TH – FRIDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER

This tour to the south coast of England lets us enjoy the pretty seaside cities of Brighton and Eastbourne, as well as some quaint settlements in the East Sussex countryside. We also include a trip to Wakehurst Botanical Garden, part of the Kew Gardens family. Day 1 Depart from your home and travel to Brighton arriving at our hotel late afternoon with tea/coffee and biscuits being served on arrival. Day 2 We start the day with an excursion to Eastbourne, one of England’s best loved seaside resorts, Eastbourne has a leisurely atmosphere with its elegant seafront terraces, level promenades and immaculate gardens. On the way to Eastbourne we follow the South Coast’s beaches and cliffs with breath taking views over the sea; passing through Newhaven and Beachy Head. In the afternoon, we visit the pretty downland village of Alfriston for a short stop before returning to Brighton after relaxing day out. Day 3 Today is free for you to discover Brighton. The city has many attractions including the Lanes, a maze of little streets with lots of specialist shops, the famous Brighton Pavilion, a Royal beach house built in Indian style and full of amazing treasures. Enjoy a stroll along the pier and wide promenade or just sit and watch the world go by. Day 4 Our day takes us to Wakehurst Botanic Garden. Here you can explore the wild botanic garden, home to the Millennium Seed Bank and over 500 acres of the world’s plants in the heart of Sussex. After our day at Wakehurst Botanic Garden, we head to Lewes, the county town of East Sussex for a short stop and time to explore and perhaps enjoy an afternoon drink before we return to Brighton. Day 5 After a leisurely breakfast we leave and head for home.
