The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is always very popular at Waldegrave, seeing students through Years 9-13 participate in Bronze, Silver and Gold level expeditions. The Bronze expedition opened up to our Year 9 students and almost the entire year group signed up, with 175 students participating!
Aside from core camping skills, students formed friendships with new people they perhaps hadn’t worked with before. Duke of Edinburgh gives students the chance to use their specific skills to aid their team, whether that be cooking, navigating or organisation, but also pushes them beyond their comfort zone. Leaders were made and new skills of teamwork, empathy and encouragement of others were tested and developed. Doubtless to say it was a challenge both mentally and physically for students and we are beyond proud of everyone for building their resilience and flourishing!
