4 2026 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run
A letter from the race commissioner
Welcome to the 2026 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run! On Sunday, May 3, the nation’s largest 10-mile road race returns, with thousands of runners racing down Broad Street toward the finish line at the Navy Yard—one of Philadelphia’s most exhilarating traditions. When I think of Philadelphia, I think of champions and of a city where we’re all winners. Today, 40,000 runners will prove it as they make their way down Broad Street, pushing through diverse neighborhoods and past legendary landmarks.
There’s something about the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run that turns an ordinary Sunday into a citywide celebration. Cheer zones with live music will keep the adrenaline pumping. Spectators will line the streets with memorable signs, spirited costumes, and shouts of encouragement to push you forward. And at the finish line, your biggest supporters will be waiting. This race brings out the best of Philadelphia — grit, resilience, and unbreakable community spirit. Every step toward the Navy Yard is a testament to the determination that defines our city. None of this would be possible without the thousands of volunteers, spectators, and dedicated staff who work behind the scenes. I appreciate the dedicated staff of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and all the City departments who are once again demonstrating Mayor Parker’s vision for One Philly, a city united in purpose. For 30 years, we’ve partnered with Independence Blue Cross to make the Broad Street Run an unforgettable experience for all. Their support has helped shape this race into the powerhouse event it is today. To everyone who makes the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run a distinctly Philadelphia event , thank you. Whether you’re running, cheering, or
volunteering, I can’t wait to see you out there. Good luck, and I’ll see you at the finish line! Sincerely, Susan Slawson Commissioner, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation
