War has been a powerful catalyst for change throughout history. This unique interdisciplinary course explores some of the seismic events that have led to war and investigates the impact on the course of human history. This fascinating course examines conflict, society, war, culture, and politics. It draws on many academic strengths, including history, American studies, classics, ancient history and Egyptology, politics and international relations, literature and media and communications. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT • This collaborative and interdisciplinary

humanitarian organisations, military organisations: police, business and media.

• Optional modules span from approaches to international relations, to politics in contemporary Britain, and from violence, conflict, and development to cyber governance. • Active research interests range from the American Civil War, Spanish Civil War, the impact of war on society, conflict and legal structures, armed conflict and post-war reconstruction in Africa, European diplomatic history and strategic studies.

course allows students to investigate what war means through multiple contexts including political, social, cultural, technological, historical, military and media. • On the taught programme, students will study two compulsory thematic modules (war, technology and culture; and war, identity and society). Amongst the themes studied in relation to war are: gender; art and culture; law and ethics; hybrid and cyber warfare; refugees; mercenaries and private military companies; total war and modern war. Students will also take a compulsory research portfolio module and three optional modules as well as a dissertation project.
